What:
Delftware or Delft pottery
Description:
Typical blue pottery made during the 16th century in and around the city of Delft [Holland] Delft is located near 'the Schie' in South-Holland between Rotterdam and Den Haag.
Delftware or Delft pottery became popular thanks to wide range of bottles, vazes, candles, tiles and plates. Especially during the period 1650-1750 there was a lot of interest in this type of pottery.
Due to the less expensive pottery from Staffordshire [England] a lot of Delftware factories had to close their doors. Today, only one factory still manufactures the real Delftware.
